After
losing the national championship game for the 2nd year in a row, though 2007 this was supposed to be a down year for the Buckeyes, Ohio State rebuilt on the fly in 2007, climbing to No. 1 in the country and winning another Big Ten title with an improbable 10-0 start. This year the team must put the past behind it. If the team gets its head on straight, they could dominate from game one.
If you believe the notion that experience counts, the Buckeye offense should be very good next season. We are in that camp, but we also believe there are some positions where either the returners have to get better or someone has to step up and bring a little something new to the OSU offense. We also think that the OSU offense may have a little different look next year despite the fact that so many players are returning.
Like the OSU offense, the Buckeye defense returns a lot of players in 2008. The only 2007 starters not returning in 2008 are linebacker Larry Grant and defensive end Vernon Gholston. While finding a replacement for Gholston may be difficult, but the Buckeyes defense will be loaded with returning players in 2008. Just one backup in the two-deep will not return, defensive end Alex Barrow, so it is easy to get excited about the OSU defense this year.
