The Green Bay Packers History
The Green Bay Packers are the third-oldest franchise in the NFL. The Packers are a National Football Conference (NFC), North Division team. In 1921 the Green Bay Packers joined the American Professional Football Association, kown today as the National Football League (NFL). The Packers are currently the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team in the United States.
The Green Bay Packers have won twelve league championships (more than any other team in the NFL) including nine NFL Championships prior to the Super Bowl era and 3 Super Bowl victories as well, including Super Bowl I in 1967 and Super Bowl II the following year. Their third win was Super Bowl XXXI in 1997. Their success over a seven-year span from 1959-1967 is unmatched as the Packers, under Hall Of Fame Coach Vince Lombardi won five league championships that culminated with their victories in the first two Super Bowls.
Beginning with the 1992 season, the Packers had 13 non-losing seasons in a row, an NFL record. Their worst record during that streak being an 8-8 record in 1999. During this span Green Bay had two Super Bowl appearances, one the Super Bowl XXXI win the other, well you cant win them all. The Packers finally suffered a losing year in the 2005 season. Under the guidance of their new head coach Mike McCarthy, they returned to have an 8-8 season in 2006 and were the NFC North Division Champions in 2007 with a 13-3 regular season record.
