The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 - a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race

The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup stock car race held at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond International Raceway has sold out the last 30 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race and features some of the best racing in all of motorsports. Richmond Raceway is unique with its 3/4-mile layout. It is also one of the only race tracks to host all of its major events "under the lights".

The first running of The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 was in 1959.  The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 is a 300 mile long race running 400 laps, hence the name.  Starting in 2004, the race served as the last race in NASCAR's "regular season" as the top ten point earning drivers and their teams held a playoff to determine the NEXTEL Cup champion.

Because of its proximity (and has been held) to Patriot Day, the Pledge of Allegiance is included as part of the opening ceremony. The 2008 Chevy Rock and Roll 400 will be raced on September 6.
