Four blue-collar young men from Newark, New Jersey, get together in the late 1950s to form one of the best-selling groups of all time, The Four Seasons. Frankie Castelluccio (Valli), Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Macioci (Massi) are Italian dropouts with gangsta tendencies who are looking for a better life. Their love for singing becomes their ticket to fame and wealth. For these angry young men, the road to rock-and-roll success isn’t smooth.
The first three to join forces are: Tommy, on guitar – he has phenomenal chops and an outrageous ego; Nick, on bass – he creates incomparable vocal harmonies, and; Frankie, on vocals – he has one of the best voices anyone around Newark has heard. Despite their talent, the music world doesn’t open up to them. The easy life of crime beckons. They get lucky when neighbor Joe Pesci (the future actor) introduces them to Bob Gaudio. Bob has come to Jersey from the Bronx. A gifted songwriter and musician who wrote a smash hit and toured with Sam Cooke and The Everly Brothers in his early teens, he’s now a young has-been who works in a printing plant.
