The population shift to the southeast had made Atlanta an attractive destination for the Braves, and they began the Atlanta chapter of their history with a 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh on April 12, 1966.
They may not have been happy with that result, but they were happy to move into Fulton County Stadium, a place that came to be known as a home run haven. Eight Atlanta Braves wound up in double figures in home runs their first year in Atlanta; in 1973, the Atlanta Braves became the only team with three forty home run hitters (Dave Johnson 43, Darrell Evans 41, Hank Aaron 40). Demand for Atlanta Braves Game Tickets soared to a new level. The Atlanta Braves combined that power with the pitching of Phil Niekro to win the first National League West crown in 1969. With Niekro at the helm again, this time supported by the bats of Dale Murphy and Bob Horner, the Atlanta Braves took the West again in 1982. The Atlanta Braves lost both National League Championship Series, to the Mets and Cardinals respectively.
After a downturn in the late 1980's the Atlanta Braves rode a great pitching staff to the head of the pack in 1991. This success once again vaulted game ticket sales to a new height. Atlanta Braves game tickets became the most important thing to the Atlanta baseball community. To this day the Atlanta Braves game tickets are still in high demand, due to their winning ways and their continued fan support.
